It never ceases to amaze me that ordinary citizens can be locked up for the smallest infractions while clergy and politicians, who abuse trust on a massive scale, seem to skate free. Week after week we hear about scandals: embezzlement, fraud, moral corruption, even outright crimes against children and the vulnerable. Yet, where are the mugshots? Where are the prison sentences?
Instead, these people get cushy retirements, book deals, speaking tours, and endless legal protections. The system bends over backwards to protect them while the rest of us face the full brunt of the law. The hypocrisy is staggering. When those who preach morality or write the laws don’t live under them, the entire system collapses into farce.
The public is told to respect these figures, to honor their positions, to give them the benefit of the doubt. But the doubt is gone. Justice isn’t justice when it only applies to some and not to all. Until clergy and politicians who break the law are actually jailed like everyone else, the words “equal under the law” are nothing but a cruel joke.
